The Gorkhapatra Corporation (GC) celebrated the birth anniversary of its founding manager Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh on Tuesday. Singh, born on the Nepali date of Bhadra 7, 1934 BS (August 23, 1877 AD), was a humanist, peace advocate, writer and social activist and an instrumental figure in assisting Rana Prime Minister Dev Shumsher establish Gorkhapatra more than a century ago. Honouring this contribution, GC’s Executive Chairman Bishnu Prasad Subedi, General Manager Lal Bahadur Airi and heads of various departments garlanded the bust of Singh present in the Corporation compound and showed their respect.
The first open prison of the country constructed at Ganapur of Ward No. 6 of Janaki Rural Municipality in Banke district has not been brought into operation in lack of procedures to run it. The 37-room prison constructed three years ago has been left stranded in lack of a procedure to operate the open prison. According to Banke Prison Office, Rasuwa-Pappu Construction JV was granted the contract to complete the construction of the open jail on October 25, 2019. Although Rasuwa-Pappu got the contract under the joint venture, Pappu was given the responsibility of construction. After Pappu finished only five per cent of the work in the given time, Rasuwa completed the remaining work three years ago.
With the first group of religious tourists reaching Simkot on Tuesday, the season for visiting Kailash Mansarovar has started for this year. Jitendra Basnet, a representative of the Trekker Society, said that religious tourists have reached Simkot from Lapcha area of Namkha Rural Municipality-6 to see Kailash Mansarovar. On the first day, 56 tourists arrived in four flights from Nepalgunj. Tourists who have come to Simkot to enjoy the beauty and climate of the Himalayan region will stay here for one night.

There are different elements of this jatra. One interesting, thrilling and important element is Majipa Lakhe.
