'follow health rules on election day'
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has asked all to follow health safety protocols on the Election Day to be held on May 13. As the election centres would be crowded on the day, everyone should wear masks to protect oneself and others from COVID-19, said the MoHP. Though the number of cases seem to be declining, the risk of spread of infection is still high, according to Dr. Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra, spokesperson for the MoHP.
Title song of ‘Satyam’ released
Lyrical video of the title song of Satyam, which has been in the news since the announcement of the movie, was made public on Tuesday. Satyam is said to be a comeback movie of superstar Rajesh Hamal after a long gap. The song of the movie starring Rajesh Hamal has been made public through Ramro Entertainment’s official YouTube channel. The song features the voice of Raju Maharjan while Resham Sapkota has penned it. ‘Kutumba Band’ has composed the music of the song as per the concept of Yogesh Kaji. Rakesh Dahal has edited the lyrical video of the song. The video features only actor Rajesh Hamal.
Musahars in Sarlahi lack will to vote
Despite the local elections now being just two days away, Bishnu Majhi Musahar of Majurba, Haripur Municipality-5 is not excited at all. He feels that the previously elected representatives have not done much to uplift the Musahar community and to solve their problems. “Many of us don’t have a house or property,” Bishnu complained. Showing the narrow unpaved road, he said, “This is the condition of our settlement.” “The people we elected did not come back to our villages. Why vote for such leaders again?” he questioned.
Dharan locals pressing for reforms at BPKIHS
Locals of Dharan, especially youth, have been staging a sit-in for 40 days demanding an end to irregularities in B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), also known as Ghopa Camp. Since April 2, the youth have been gathering in front of the Dental Gate at 4 pm everyday under the banner ‘Save Ghopa Campaign’. The campaign’s main demand is to improve the system and services of the BPKIHS. The Ghopa Camp has been a major health institution for people across eastern Nepal for the past two decades. However, the locals stated that the autonomous government institution has been falling prey to corruption directly affecting health services delivered to the public.
Indian Air Force plane arrives in Bhairahawa
A special plane belonging to the Indian Air Force has arrived at the Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA), Bhairahawa. The plane carrying a team of 30 Indian military officials landed at the airport on Wednesday to make the necessary security arrangements for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is scheduled to come to Lumbini on May 16 on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti. The plane also brought a vehicle that Prime Minister Modi will use during his visit here.
Profit of Nepal Telecom declines
Net profit of state-owned telecom company - Nepal Telecom (NT) - has decreased, during the third quarter of the current fiscal year 2021/22, by 7.63 per cent during the third quarter of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last fiscal year. The company has earned a net profit of Rs. 5.43 billion in the review period of the current fiscal year 2021/22 while it had earned a net profit of Rs. 5.88 billion in the third quarter of the last fiscal year 2020/21. However, operating income of the company has increased by 2.8 per cent during the review period. The operation income of the NT stood at Rs. 28.21 billion during the third quarter of the current fiscal year while it was Rs. 27.45 billion during the same period a year ago.
One can vote showing citizenship, passport or national ID card: EC
Arrangement has been made for the voters to cast their votes in the local level election to be held on Friday by showing voter identity cards, citizenship certificates or national ID card or passports or land ownership certificate. Issuing a statement, the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday informed that the voters included in the final voters’ list can cast their votes showing their voter ID cards or original copy of citizenship certificate, national ID cards, or passports or land ownership certificates.
Election Silence Period
The country has entered a 48-hour silence period from Tuesday midnight in order to create an environment conducive to holding the local polls, slated for May 13, in a fair, free and peaceful manner. Within this period, the political parties, candidates and their supporters are not allowed to get involved in any poll campaign activities – physically and virtually. It starts 48 hours before the start of polling at 7:00 am and till the voting centres are closed at 5:00 pm. The Election Commission (EC) has completed all logistical and administrative preparations before enforcing the ‘silence period’ that is crucial to maintain the fairness and sanctity of the poll considered the cornerstone of the democratic polity. The legitimacy of the system is enhanced and broadened if the validity of the process and outcomes of the polls is not questioned.

Kolkata stay in IPL playoff race
Kolkata Knight Riders stayed in the Indian Premier League playoffs hunt after beating the lowly Mumbai Indians by 52 runs on Monday. Kolkata scored 165-9 thanks to aggressive knocks from Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana and Mumbai was bowled out for 113 in 17.3 overs. The winners were seventh on the table, two wins out of the top four. Mumbai, the five-time champion, was already out of contention before its ninth loss in 11 games.
Only 31% capital budget spent
With only 64 days remaining before the current fiscal year 2021/22 comes to an end, the federal government has been able to utilise only 31 per cent of the capital budget. Of the total capital allocation of Rs. 378 billion, Rs. 117.1 billion is spent till Monday, according to the daily receipts and payments status report of the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO). As per general calculations, the government has to spend about Rs. 4.07 billion a day to mobilise the unspent Rs. 260.9 billion capital budget.
Indian PM Modi to visit Lumbini on Buddha Jayanti
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is arriving in Nepal to mark the Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini on May 16. This will be the first visit of the Indian Prime Minister after his re-election to the top post in 2019. The Indian Prime Minister’s Lumbini visit was confirmed by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba while addressing an election rally in Dadeldhura on Tuesday. Speaking at the election rally organised by Dadeldhura NC, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Deuba said that the construction work of the West Seti Hydropower Project would be handed over to India during the visit.
