By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Mar. 21: South Asian Games gold medalists Gopi Chandra Parki and Santoshi Shrestha clinched the title of the 2nd Bir Ganesh Man Singh Road Race in the men’s and women’s category respectively in the capital on Saturday.
They bagged the title for the second straight year. Both won the title in the last edition of the race as well. What’s more, Parki, of the Armed Police Force (APF), set a new record in the second edition by completing the 10-km-long race in 00 hours, 31 minutes and 44.49 seconds to set the new record. In the maiden edition, Parki had finished the race in 00 hours, 32 minutes and 01.2 seconds.
Similarly, Anish Thapa Magar ended the race in 31 minutes and 50.49 seconds, Tirtha Pun in 31 minutes and 56.38 seconds to seal second and third positions, and received Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 15,000 as awards respectively.
Meanwhile, Santoshi Shrestha won the race title in the women’s category. She secured her second title after breaking her own record in 37 minutes 53.44 seconds. She received Rs. 60,000 as an award. She had completed the first race in 39 minutes and 10.18 seconds.
Rajpura of Nepal Police Club who came in the second position, completed the race in 49 minutes and 30 seconds, while Phulmati Rana of Armed Police Force (APF) who came in the third did so in 40 minutes and 56 seconds. Rajpura and Rana bagged Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively.
The event was organized by the Bir Ganesh Man Singh Sports committee. Kicking off from Durbarmarg, the race went through Ratnapark, Bhadrakali, Sahid Gate, Bir Hospital, Jamal before ending at Durbarmarg.
