Nepali women claim maiden T20I series

Kathmandu, Nov 18 : Saraswati Kumari picked four wickets and Captain Rubina Chhetry smashed a half-century as Nepal women cricket team claimed their first Twenty20 International Series against Qatar 2-0 in Doha on Wednesday.

Nepal trounced Qatar by 61 runs to record their second consecutive win over host at West End Park International Cricket Stadium. Nepal defeated Qatar by 119 runs in the first match of the series on Tuesday. Nepali women cricket team is in Doha for three-match T20I series.

Electing to bat first, Nepal posted 129 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Oman, in reply, only managed to collect 68 runs losing all of their wickets in 19.3 overs.
Though the host team came up with improved batting from the previous day, their batters could not lead them to victory. Captain Ayesha top-scored with 32-ball 24 and Kerry Pounsett became the second batter to post the double figure of 18-ball 15.

Saraswati conceded eight runs to claim four wickets in her economic spell of four overs. Captain Rubina picked two wickets in her all-around performance. Sabnam Rai, Sangita Rai and Kabita Joshi also claimed one wicket apiece in the dismissal of Qatar.

Earlier, Captain Rubina clubbed 50 runs off 48 balls to steady Nepal’s innings after losing two wickets of Jyoti Pandey (6) and Kajal Shrestha (3) cheaply. Opener Kabita Kunwar was another major contributor with 30-ball 31 that included two maximums.

Kabita and Rubina paired for a 56-run stand for the third wicket. Rubina became the second Nepali woman to smash the T20I half-century after Indu Barma, who hit 55 against Qatar on Tuesday.

Apsari Begam remained not out with 17-ball 23. Angeline Mare picked two wickets whereas Aysha, Aleena Khan, Sabeeja Panayan and Khadija Imtiaz claimed one wicket each for Qatar
