Kathmandu, Dec. 2: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Wednesday signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) for the project “Establishment of Cyber Bureau with Capacity Building of Nepal Police” amidst a ceremony held at the ministry.

The RoD was signed by Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey and Sunghoon Ko, Country Director of KOICA Nepal, according to a press statement issued by the KOICA.
The Korean government through the agency will spend USD 8 million for the project in the coming six years.
The project will be implemented by the agency in close collaboration and coordination with the MoHA and Nepal Police, the statement read.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen anti-cyber-crime capabilities of Nepal Police wherein the main component of the project is to construct state-of-the-art building for the Cyber Bureau, provide equipment related to cyber-crime investigation and digital forensic lab and capacity building of relevant human resources of Nepal Police.
Following the agreement, Secretary Pandey said that there was a need of a well-equipped and well-capacitated Cyber Bureau to combat the increasing trend of cyber-crime. He further assured full cooperation for successful implementation of the project.

At present, Nepal Police has its own Cyber Bureau at Bhotahiti, Kathmandu, and the project will upgrade the present infrastructure – both technologically and physically.
Similarly, Country Director of KOICA Ko said that the project carried great importance for both the governments since it would contribute to reducing cyber-crime and protect victims in Nepal with the expertise and resources based on Korean experience on Police Cyber Bureau.
