Nagarkoti wins Surya Nepal Central Open

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Mar. 19: Bhuwan Nagarkoti won the Surya Nepal Central Open, the season opening event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021-21, at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club, Kathmandu on Thursday. 

Bhuwan carded two-over 74 for the 72-hole total score of seven-under 281 to register one-shot victory over amateur Subash Tamang. South Asian Games double Gold medalist Subash carded one-under 71 for the total score of six-under 282.  Sukra Bahadur Rai faltered to third place after scoring forgettable five-over 77 on the final day for a total of two-under 286. 

Bhuwan took home a cash prize of Rs. 130,000, while Subash being amateur Golfer took the amateur winner trophy and the cash prize for second place went to Sukra, he earned Rs. 84000. 

Sanjay Lama came third among professional with the total score of two-over 290 after he scored two-over 74, he pocketed Rs. 60,000.  
Amateur Ajit B.K. came fifth overall and runner-up among amateurs with the total score of three-over 291, he scored even-par 72 today. Vijay Shrestha Einhaus was third among amateurs and overall, sixth in the tournament with the total score of 292, he carded three-over 75. 

Fourth prize among professionals went to Rabi Khadka after he scored three-over 75 on the final round, he earned Rs. 50,000. Rajendra Shrestha Pradhan and Deepak Magar were tied for fifth among professionals with the score of seven-over 295. And each bagged Rs 39,750. Veteran pro Deepak carded three-under 69 and Rajendra scored four-over 76. 

Rame Magar came seventh among professionals with the score of eight-over 296 to earn Rs. 35,000, he carded six-over 78 today. Niraj Tamang finished eighth among professionals at nine-over 297, Niraj Tamang was ninth with the score of 10-over 298 and Jayaram Shrestha was 10th with the score of 11-over 299 and bagged Rs. 32,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 28,000 respectively. 

No. 1 pro Bhuwan began the day with two-shot lead over Sukra Bahadur Rai. after the completion of front nine, the gap was down to one-stroke, Subash was just one-stroke away from Sukra. On the back nine, Bhuwan kept his cool and capitalized on the mistakes of Sukra and Subash.

Bhuwan made birdie on the 12th against a drop shot on the 15th while Sukra no birdies and four bogeys to finish the last nine holes, he was out of contention after making consecutive bogeys on 15th and 16th holes. Subash was just two-strokes away from Bhuwan after carding birdie on the 15th hole, both players made pars on 16th and 17th and it got really interesting on the last hole after Subash sank a birdie from about 35 feet, Bhuwan was just a foot closer to the hole for birdie. He sealed the victory after sinking three-feet par putt. 

A total of 61 golfers – record 4 pros and 17 amateurs -- took part in the event organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Vice President Marketing Dipra Lahiri, Nepal PGA President Rabindra Man Shrestha and NGA President Tashi Ghale handed over the prizes to the winners.
