Friends stun Three Star, Saraswoti hold BBC

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan 12: Friends Club stunned Three Star Club to register first win at the on-going Martyr’s Memorial A Division League as they edged Three Star Club 1-0 in Lalitpur derby on Sunday.

The Brazilian player of Friends Club Wagner De Carmo helped Friends to script its first victory which sent the club to the 11th spot with 5 points from 6 matches. Three Star is at 4th spot with 10 points from 6 matches.

Similarly, Machhindra Football Club is leading the point table with 13 points from 6 matches while Tribhuvan Army Club is at second spot with 12 points from 5 matches and with equal 12 points from 5 matches defending champions Manang is at third spot with 12 points from 6 matches they played.

The header from Wagner in the 13th minute provided Friends Club, who is still in the relegation zone, a huge relief, after they registered first victory in their 6th round match of the league.

 Wagner scored the winner off a free kick from Bishwa Adhikari. Earlier, Friends played two draws and conceded three defeats in their last five matches. With is heroic goal Wagner was declared the Man of the Match.

After failing to win against lowly Friends, Three Star Club Coach Megh Raj KC said, “We failed to perform well against Friends,”

“My players failed to score in the golden opportunities but Friends was successful to score,” Coach KC said.

After first victory, Friends Club Brazilian Coach Marcus Dantas was delighted and said his team had performed very well against Three Star Club.

“I am glad to collect three points from a big team and this is a big win for us,” Coach Marcus said.

Meanwhile, Saraswoti Youth Club opened its account at the on-going league after they played a goalless draw against Brigade Boys Club in the second match of the day.

The relegation threatened Saraswoti opened its accounts in the 6th round match of the league after they suffered five defeats in a row. The Koteshwor based Saraswoti is still at the bottom of the league standing with one point from 6 matches while Brigade Boys is at the 8th with 7 points from 6 matches.

Saraswoti mid-fielder Manish Thapa was declared the Man of the Match.

The departmental side Nepal Police Club to face New Road Team (NRT) in the first match and Armed Police Force (APF) will encounter Chyasal Youth Club in the second match at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Monday.
