By Shesh Kant Pandit, Kavre, Apr. 15: A campaign has been launched to motivate and reward parents to come to school with the objective of increasing student attendance and learning in community schools.

The reward to parents has been initiated citing to make the government campaign to bring out of school children to the classroom a success under the concept that if the involvement of the parents can be increased, then the learning achievement of students will rise, and ease the management of the school as well.

The schools of Khanikhola Rural Municipality of the Kavrepalanchok district have started a campaign to select and reward five active parents from this year.

Mahendra Primary School of the Khanikhola Rural Municipality has awarded five parents. Local guardians Batulimaya Thokar, Buddha Singtak, Rajkumar Titung, Shukra Bahadur Ghising and Makhmali Sarumagar have been awarded.

The Principal of Mahendra Primary School Kamal Pulami said that the initiation has helped to increase the attendance of students in the class.

He said, "The parents have even showed concern on the regularity of teachers and about the study of their children."

Under the progression of this initiative, it has been observed that the students stay in the classroom full-time and that education after lunch has been fruitful as well.

The criteria to select and award the parents has been made on the basis of whether the parents come to school daily or not, and whether or not the parents are interested in the education and schooling of their children.

Similarly, Janahit Secondary School, located at Milche-7, Khanikhola in Kavre, has awarded five parents for their activism.

Local parents Shantimaya Tholan, Raj Kumar Lopchan, Anjita Thapa, Nirmal Bahadur Thapa, and Tek Bahadur Thing have been honoured, said school principal Keshav Bahadur Magar.

"Those parents who showed no interest in the education and schooling of their children, now have been enquiring about the study of their children as well as regularities of the children." Principal Magar informed The Rising Nepal.

Purna Bahadur Titung, Chairman of the Mahendra Primary School Management Committee said that it has become comfortable in running the school adhering to all the health safety standards as parents have now become active and conscious of their children.
