Kathmandu, July 24: The calendar of the upcoming 14th general convention of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has been put off due to a delay in settling the protracted dispute related to active membership.

A meeting of the NC present and past office-bearers today decided to adjourn the ward convention of the party scheduled to take place on July 27, informed party spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma.

He further shared that Active Membership Probe Committee coordinator Ramesh Lekhak would submit the committee report to central leadership on July 27 and then only a decision would be made on the new date for the ward convention.

It may be noted that the party had decided to submit the list of party active membership with the signature of the party president to the central election committee on July 14.

The general convention calendar has been affected when the dispute of active membership has yet to be finalized in some districts.

At the meeting held at the private residence of NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at Budhanilakantha, the discussion was held to amend the calendar of other conventions of the party without affecting the stipulated date of the general convention.

The central working committee meeting of the party held on June 18 had decided to conduct the 14th general convention of the party on September 1-4 in Kathmandu.

As per the previous decision, the ward convention was set for July 27.
