60 thousand in quarantine in Sudur Paschim, quarantines overcrowded

By Chadani Acharya, Lamki, June 4: Over 60 thousand people who returned home from India recently are till Wednesday evening in the quarantine in the Sudur Paschim State.

According to the records made available by Health Directorate at Doti, 5,988 are in quarantine in Achham,   5,865 in Baitadi, 2,998 in Bajhang, 4,290 in Bajura, 4,499 in Dadelhura, 1,451 in Darchual, 8,589 in Doti and 7,979 in Kanchanpur.

Similarly, there are 15,769 people in quarantine in Kailali district. 338 quarantine locations of 13 local levels of Kailali district have housed the people who returned home from India recently.

Of all the local levels in Kailali, Ghodaghodi municipality has the highest number of people in quarantine, over 2,700. Mayor Mamata Prasad Chadhari said that those returning home from India are now kept under the tent and zinc sheet as all the public schools, community building and even churches which are used as quarantine spots have been occupied more than their capacity.

Kailash Rawat, chief of health section of the municipality, said those staying in the quarantine have become infuriated and demanded to let them go home as the report of the 53 persons' swabs has not been provided even after a week of the swab collection for the PCR test. He said people were staying in the quarantine for over three weeks due to lack of RDT test kit for their test and that about 300 people a day were joining in the already overcrowded quarantine locations, which had added to the problem.

Today alone, 4 thousand 225 Nepalis returning home from India entered Nepal from the Gadda Chauki border point of Kanchanpur and Gaurifanta border point of Kailali. Similarly, 687 Indians working in Nepal returned to their homes from the same border points

Since May 15, over 79 thousand Nepalis working in India have returned home through different border points in the Sudur Paschim State while 11 thousand Indians have went back to their homes in the same period.
