Stop Playing Game Of Musical Chairs

Parmeshwar Devkota

A chair is a piece of furniture that the people use for sitting and resting. Most chairs, with the virtue of their design, can accommodate one person on them. A person sits on a chair for conducting his/her work or for having relaxation.
No one knows who invented the chair, but the history of the chair is very long and inspiring. Greek thinker Plato had, for the first time, used the term ‘chair’ while commenting the topic of art in his famous book the Republic X.
Plato said that the true concept of the chair is the ideal because it belongs to God. A craftsman’s drawing for the same is the emotional representation of the ideal chair of the God whereas a wood craftsman's making of a chair looking on the drawing by a craftsman is working with a copy of a copy, which the famous philosopher termed as ‘thrice removed from the fact’.
The philosopher had referred to the example of chairs only to argue about art, but his citing of it was the first-ever in the history of chairs. His reference shows that it was popular in ancient Greek. In the Middle Age, some chairs used to be heavy, decorated with gold and diamond and were considered to be the symbol of power and prosperity.
In the present day, with the invention of specialised technology and the use of materials, the shape, size and quality of the chair have kept varying. Along with normal types of chairs, we also have swivel chairs, wheelchairs, high chairs and deckchairs. Rocking chairs can be considered the best product ever because it allows users to have moved along with the rest at the same time. The chair with a headrest panel happens to be of high value, so the people use a high chair to show their position.
Sofas, coaches, and chaise longue are specially designed products of the chair family. So, they are extended family members of the chair, because they provide more relaxation to the users but are costly, too. There is a terminology that is used with the word ‘chair’, but it has to do nothing with any physical existence of a chair. It is 'musical chair’ that stands for different meanings. It is a game that is played by players who have the stamina, adequate tactics and supple body. They can run in the circle with a focused gaze to a chair while music is played.
As and when the music stops each time, a player must occupy a chair. The problem is that each time there are more players than the chairs on the ground. So, one player has to stay out of the game on each turn.
Therefore, the word ‘chair’ has nothing to do with the game of musical chairs which has rather some resemblance with the rush of politicians in the House Representatives for gaining power. These days the game of musical chairs bear political connotation as the leaders of all political parties are virtually playing it. They are engaged in activities aimed at overthrowing the government or saving it from possible collapse. But the need of the time is to play this game fairly and honestly.
