Centenarian Thimi woman beats COVID-19

Bhaktapur, Oct. 6: A 101-year-old woman from Madhyapur Thimi Municipality Ward No. 6, Pachoki, beat the coronavirus infection in 16 days. Ganesh Maya Prajapati, who was confirmed COVID-19 positive on September 20, tested negative for virus in 16 days.
Her son, Indra Bahadur Prajapati, said the result of Ganesh Maya's latest test for COVID-19 on Friday came negative. 
Indra Bahadur, who is also the ward chairman of Ward No.6 of the municipality, said that after he tested positive for COVID-19, he took his family members, including his centenarian mother Ganesh Maya, for a test at Nepal Korea Municipality Friendship Hospital. His sister and son also tested positive for COVID-19.
After the infection was confirmed, Ganesh Maya started living in home isolation. She did not take any medicine other than two tablets of vitamin C regularly during the infection, Indra Bahadur said.
According to Indra Bahadur, his mother regularly took nutritious food and hot water, hot water steam three times a day and cloves, sweet melons, cardamom, turmeric, ginger, pipla, jaipri and Gurjo.
Ganesh Maya can hardly speak Nepali. Indra Bahadur said that she did not have any chronic disease, but she started taking medicine for hypertension 10 years ago but stopped taking it for two years now.
“She has gastritis problem so she is taking medicine for gastritis regularly. Apart from this, she is not taking any allopathic medicine,” Indra Bahadur said.
Ganesh Maya did not experience any critical symptoms during the infection. She had only the symptoms of a common cold and chest pain, Indra Bahadur said.
A few years ago, during a regular check-up, Indra Maya was diagnosed with a swollen heart. Apart from chest pain, she has no other health problems. 
Indra Bahadur said, “Although my mother did not have any disease, she is physically weak. She is taking vitamin E regularly.”
He said that not only Ganesh Maya but also his sister and son did not show any specific symptoms of coronavirus so it was easy for them to stay in home isolation.
According to Madan Sundar Shrestha, Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, some 915 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the municipality until Sunday. There are 298 active cases and some 600 people have already recovered from the infection.
