Minister Chaudhary calls for restructuring of Dairy Development Board

blog

Kathmandu, June 9: Minister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, stressed the need to transform the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) into a more effective and results-oriented institution.

Assuming office as Chairperson of the Board today, Minister Chaudhary pledged to advance the dairy sector in line with the Board’s mandate through collaboration with all stakeholders.

Noting that the Board is an important institution for dairy farmers, cooperatives and the private sector, Chaudhary, however, expressed her concern over the questions raised time to time over its relevance due to its inability to consistently deliver effective results.

On the occasion, the Minister instructed the Board officials and employees to become more accountable to the institution and work proactively for the overall development of the dairy industry.

She also directed them to work actively to increase production, improve market management and protect farmers’ interests.

The primary objective of the NDDB is to furnish policy recommendations to the government for the growth and promotion of the dairy sector.

The Board is also mandated to deliver to contribute positively to dairy production, consumption, quality improvement, market management, import substitution and export promotion.(RSS)
