Weather to remain cloudy till Tuesday

Kathmandu, Jan. 24: A locally developed low pressure system for the past two days has been causing partly to generally cloudy with light rainfall in western and far-western parts of Nepal and snowfall in high mountainous and hilly regions, Meteorologists said Sunday.

“The weather will remain partly to generally cloudy till Tuesday due to low pressure system developed,” senior Meteorologist Barun Poudel for the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.
“The low pressure developed in Nepal has no significant impact thus the weather will remain cloudy in the day and morning time till Tuesday in the Kathmandu Valley and other districts,” Poudel said.
On Sunday, some areas in Gandaki and Sudurpaschim witnessed drizzles bringing normal life standstill because of severe cold.

“In the coming 24 hours, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in Lumbini and Karnali Provinces and some parts of the Sudurpaschim region, while light rain is expected in a few places in other parts of the country,” Poudel said.
Light to moderate snowfall is expected in most parts of the high hills and mountains of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces as well as Gandaki, Bagmati and some parts of Province No. 1, he said.
It is common to witness some phenomena once a week as the winter is in its peak time now, Meteorologist Poudel said.

Terai region in the west, central and eastern will witness cold wave in the coming weeks, he added.
Biratnagar and Dhangadhi are blanketed by thick fog even during the day time, he said.
Dense foggy situation has been developed in Biratnagar, Janakpur and Bhairahawa with visibility range falling to 3000, 2,000 and 5,000 metres respectively. Likewise, Simara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi have 6,000, 8,000 and 6000 metres of visibility respectively.

Most of the meteorological stations from across the country have registered below zero and up to one degree Celsius of minimum temperature in the last 24 hours. In the last 24 hours, Kathmandu registered 0.1 Celsius degree minimum temperature.

Meanwhile, normal life in Gaur has been affected because of chilling cold. The southern town in Rautahat district has been under the thick fog for the past two days.
Locals have failed to see the sun for the past two days. Cold waves have, especially affected the old age people. Locals have been making fire by using firewood, food wrapping cartons and cow dungs in the major chowks to keep themselves warm.

Ram Ekbal Sah of Gaur Municipality-2 said that they have felt a sigh of relief after the local government distributed firewood.
Many children and old age people have been visiting hospital with several complications, Dr. Pankaj Thakur of the emergency section of the District Hospital, said.
