Jumla, Mar : 2 Each house in four villages of Hima Gaunpalika in Jumla district now has access to piped water.
With the villages facing scarcity of drinking water, Hima Gaunpalika had made an effort to provide drinking water under its plan ‘one house-one tap’.
“Each of 365 houses in four villages – Jogiwada, Chema, Odi and Upper Chyudika – now has a tap. Water has also facilitated sanitation in the villages,” said Raj Bahadur Shahi, chairman of Hima Gaunpalika.
The local government had coordinated with Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDAC) and WaterAid Nepal for the project.
Around Rs. 32 million was received to provide drinking water in the four villages from various donors. According to KIRDAC, only around Rs. 29 million has been spent for the project.
With four villages added in the list, houses of nine villages in Hima Gaunpalika now receive drinking water through taps.
“We have 29 villages in our Gaunpalika. With nine of them receiving drinking water through taps, all the remaining villages will have the same service soon,” said Shahi.
Scarcity of water in Jumla had even led to less use of toilets.
“Many daily chores were affected due to lack of water. The problem is now solved,” said Pushkar Nath Yogi, a local of Ward 3 of Hima Gaunpalika.
According to concerned authorities, they have built a drinking water project which will come into operation effectively for next 20 years and provide drinking water to all the villages.
