By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov. 27: Chairman of the CPN (UML) has underlined the need for safeguarding basic norms of Democracy.

He said so while addressing the closed session of the 10th National Congress of his party in Chitwan on Saturday.

"Problems keep coming up if we move ahead dismissing democratic practices. So we should keep democratic norms safe," he said, adding that the UML was capable to save democracy.

Referring to the party charter convention held earlier, he said Congress should be made successful in the same spirit.

The UML Chair observed that dreams of those who wanted to see the UML getting liquidized have found their dreams crumbled down with the Congress. He claimed that UML leadership can develop the country.

Chair Oli said his party got split due to a series of onslaught from outside in which insiders were also involved.

He said the country was going through an unstable political situation at present.

In regard to party, unity is the main motto, while with regard to the opposition, competition is the main objective," he said stressing consensus, agreement and unity within the party.

He said the hard work of all party members was needed to save the party and that there was a need to disseminate a message that the party was united and such a message can be sent by selecting the new executive committee through consensus.
