Kathmandu, Aug. 31: Three persons were killed and two went missing due to floods and landslides in various parts of Darchula district on Monday morning.
The flood and landslip that occurred following incessant rain on Sunday night have damaged the physical infrastructures and caused human casualties in various places of Duhun Rural Municipality and Mahakali Municipality.
Narsingh Mahar and his wife Kausha Mahar were killed when a landslide buried their house at Baspalika of Duhun Rural Municipality.

The landslide occurred in the night when the couple was asleep, Deputy Superintendent of Police Manohar Prasad Bhatta said.
Similarly, Manuwa Dadal was killed due to a flood at Dulla of Duhun Rural Municipality-5. The flood in the local Kalagad rivulet which occurred at around 10 pm on Sunday swept away Dadal’s house.
Locals Sher Singh Karki and Harak Singh Karki have been missing after being washed away by the flood in Nijangad River of Darchula district.

The flood damaged five shops, two hydropower projects, four suspension bridges, and a cement and concrete bridge in the area. Also, 11 houses have been damaged completely at Shribagar of Mahakali Municipality-1 in Darchula district. According to National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority, locals of around 40 to 45 houses residing along the Mahakali riverside at Shribagar have been evacuated to safer places.

Traffic resumes at Naghdhunga-Naubise road
The Nagdhunga-Naubise road section along Tribhuvan Highway that was blocked by a landslide following incessant rain since early Monday morning has seen resumption of traffic.
A landslide had hit the route at 5:30 am near Chisapani Dhara along the highway.
According to Metropolitan Police Circle Thankot’s chief, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Khand, two excavators were used to reopen the road after six hours of effort.
Vehicles to and from the Kathmandu Valley via the Naghdhunga point have made a long queue following the traffic disruption. The disruption led to a traffic jam up to Thankot towards Kathmandu and up to Khanikhola towards Dhading.

Beni-Jomsom road section blocked
In Myagdi, landslide in the wake of incessant rains has left three persons injured and damaged eight houses in Kalipul of Beni district headquarters.
Govinda Bahadur Budha, Rekha Nepal and Santu Purja of Beni Municipality-8 have been injured in a landslide at Kaligandaki River in Kalipul.
The landslide has damaged the houses of Kshetra Bahadur Gauchan, Mangal Bahadur Gurung and Sona Pun of Kalipul in the Municipality and partially damaged the houses of Tara Prasad Pun, Suresh Pun, Kendra Rai, Tika Purja and Harka Bahadur Magar, according to Ram Krishna Baraili, chairman of Ward No. 8.

Baudi River sweeps away suspension bridge
An under construction suspension bridge connecting Baudikali Rural Municipality 3 and 4 in Nawalparasi (East) district was swept away by flood in the river on Monday.
A 55-metre bridge was swept away which was under construction in economic assistance of the province government, local Dilli Bahadur Rana said. About 75 per cent work of the bridge had been completed.
