Kathmandu, Jan. 2: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) said on Friday that the power cut in certain locations in the Kathmandu Valley was due to the interruption in the national electricity system and there was no situation to implement fresh load-shedding.
Expressing concerns over the media reports about the failure of the electricity regulator to manage power and beginning of unannounced load shedding, the NEA said that the power cut on December 28 and 29 was due to the system trip.
“There was 1431 Megawatt load in the Integrated National Power System on Monday evening. The Khimti-Lamosanghu 123 KV transmission line was operating at its full capacity and Khimti-Lamosanghu-Bhaktapur-Matatirtha-Hetauda-Dhalkebar were in the same loop but as the level of water at Marsyangdi reservoir reached the lowest level, we decreased the production there. It resulted in higher amount of energy import from India and Khimti-Lamosangu was overloaded. It caused the system trip,” said the NEA at a press meet on Friday afternoon.
It said that remedial measures like increasing the import from India and increasing reservoir level in Peaking Run of the River projects were adopted. The NEA has also given more attention to comparatively weak transmission lines.
The NEA has reassured that there would be no load shedding in the future as well.
The system trip has disturbed the supplies in Patan, Baneshwor, Bhaktapur, Chabahil and Banepa areas for about seven minutes on December 29.
