Some 1.6 million new voters enlisted in a year

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 8: The Election Commission, Nepal, has estimated that some 1.6 million new voters have been added to the national voters' list in a year.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya informed that the EC had estimated that about 1.6 million new voters have been enlisted during the voters enlisting from 21 December 2020 to 7 February 2022.

The EC has halted voters' name collection since Tuesday, February 7, as the government announced the date for the local level election, on May 13.

Chief Election Commissioner Thapaliya said that all 77 district election offices were instructed to send the details related to voters' names collected so far.

An exact number of voters will be finalized once details from districts are received.

The EC has stated that there were 16.2 million voters till 20 December 2020, in which men accounted for 8.2 million while women accounted for 8 million.

Chief Commissioner Thapaliya added that the voters' name collection will be resumed 4-5 days after the completion of the local level election.
