Nepal Socialist Party has withdrawn its support it had given to the Nepal Communist Party’s (NCP) government.
Meeting of the executive committee of the party today decided to withdraw their support to the government.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Upendra Yadav and Minister for Urban Development, Mohammed Istiyak Rai, who are the representatives of socialist party had given their resignation on Tuesday.
Right after Yadav and Rai’s resignation, the party today conducted a press meet to notify that they will no longer be in support of the ruling government.
Speaking in the press meet, Upendra Yadav, Chairman of the Socialist Party said, “Withdrawing our support to the government as per Article 76 (2) of the constitution, our party, from today will be an opposition party.”
The ruling NCP’s government now has consequently lost its 2-3rd majority. Among 275 members of the House of Representatives (HoR), 111 members of the Socialist party were in support of the government.
Now the ruling government holds only 174 HoR members’ support.
