Kathmandu Feb. 12: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota Tuesday said one should not forget one’s duties while talking about his rights.
Speaking at an interaction entitled, “Women Empowerment for Rights to Information,” organised by the National Information Commission (NIC), Minister Baskota said every citizen should be informed about their duties towards the nation.
“Not only about the rights, the citizens should also be well informed about their duties. This is the right to information,” he added.
The Constitution of Nepal has a special provision for women’s participation, said Minister Baskota, adding that instead of focusing on the cities, the NIC should carry out such programmes targeting the far-flung districts.
People have the right to get informed about the works carried out by the government and this also falls under the right to information, he said, adding that citizens had the right to know what the government had aimed at. “The Right to Information Act has made people empowered,” he added.
“The Prime Minister’s wish to make “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” cannot be realised if others fail to work accordingly,” said Minister Baskota, urging one and all to work from their places to make this national campaign a success.
Chairperson of the Development and Technology Committee under the House of Representatives Kalyani Kumari Khadka said RTI was the most important right for women.
