Bara, Nov. 15

Construction of 20-kilometre road section of the Postal Highway from Bariyapur to Pratima Chowk of Birgunj is all set to complete before the deadline.

Blacktopping of the road has already completed in the most of the areas from Bariyapur to Pratima Chowk, except in some places where the locals are intervening.

Dipendra Pandey, Chief of the Postal Highway Project Office, Birgunj, informed that 70 per cent of the construction work had already completed.

“Construction is going on a full swing,” said Pandey. The remaining 30 per cent work includes installment of milestones, traffic signboards, delineator posts and works of bio- engineering, he added.

In January 2017, Swachanda, Sama and Pappu constructions had jointly won the contract of the project at Rs. 850 million to complete the construction within 30 months.

The construction is anticipated to be completed in eight months if the locals do not intervene. The road would also help the pilgrimages travel to Gadhimai fair of this year.

Jahur Alam, Director of Sama Construction, said, “70 centimeters thick and seven metre wide blacktopping, three metre wide footpath of and two metre long drainage has been constructed.”

Gadhimai, one of the famous religious sites of Asia, also falls on this postal road. The locals have said that the road would also facilitate both the internal and external tourists to visit the Gadhimai fair.

The Gadhimai festival, which takes place once in every five years, will be held in December this year.

Preparations for the festival is going on a full pace, informed Ram Chandra Sah Teli, chairman, Gadhimai Management and Development Committee.
