Kathmandu, Sept. 24: Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Sarbendra Khanal said on Tuesday that Nepal Police was always ready to lend supporting hands to build a better coordination for combating security challenges at local and international levels.

Speaking at an inaugural session of a three-day first Asian level conference of Asia Police Colloquium-2019 in Kathmandu, IGP Khanal said that Nepal Police had initiated Community Police Partnership Programme from the last year to combat criminal activities and ensure safety of every individual.

Nepal Police held the conference in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

“The conference would deserve its own value as this would be a common forum for all police officials for expressing and sharing each nation’s good practices, references, thoughts and strategic planning to minimise organised crimes of any nature,” IGP Khanal said.

The police departments of all nations should unite and stand at one forum to foil possible security threats and challenges that may pose by an individual, groups and organisations, he said.

Nepal Police since the past few years have been yielding overwhelming results in controlling terrorism, cross-border crime, organised crime, drug smuggling, arms, cyber-crime and human trafficking, he said.

ICRC Nepal Mission Chief Andre Paquet, head of the ICRC Mission in Nepal, briefed about various programmes run by the ICRC, Kathmandu, including humanitarian aspects.

Twenty-five senior police officials from 15 Asian countries are participating in the seminar.

The conference will dwell on topics like contemporary Policing Constraints and Challenges in Asia, Community Engagement Benefits, Advantages and Disadvantages in Policing, Working with Military in Law Enforcement Operations, Crowd Management Command Considerations Linked to Community Engagement and Roots of Behaviour and Restraint in Policing Group Identity positive and Negative Impacts on Policing Operations.
