Police foil child marriage

By Our Correspondent, Siraha, Feb. 11: Police have rescued three girls from getting married at a tender age in Siraha. They were rescued from separate venues where child marriage rituals were in progress.

Police recused Ranju Kumari Mukhiya, daughter of Rijhan Mukhiya  in Kanjarnha Municipality – 6, Sangita Kapair, daughter of Shreeram Kapair  in Michirya Municipality – 1, and Ganita Majhi, daughter of Ramnaresh Majhi, in Kalyaanpur Municipality – 1 .

According to Superintendent of Police and chief of Siraha Police Office Uma Prasad Chaturbedi, the guardians of the girls promised not to arrange the marriage of their wards before they reach marriageable age. 

Chaturbedi also said that all area police offices in the district were actively working to discourage the child marriage practice.

“In the first step, they will encourage parents to stop child marriage, if it is not controlled, then they will take legal actions,”  said Chaturbedi.

Meanwhile, two were killed in a road accident along Choharwa Road section in the district.

According to District Police Office, a passenger bus ((Na. 4 Kha. 9241)   coming from Siraha headquarters had hit a motorcycle (Lu. 16. Pa. 4441) coming from the opposite direction on Monday.

Aman Mandal, 29, resident of Siraha Municipality – 3, Ramaul and Shailendra Mandal , 45  of Makhanaha, Siraha Municipality- 3,  died in the accident.
