By Avinash Chaudhari, Dhangadhi, July 2: The locals of Kailali have felt maintenance of peace and order after establishment of Border out Post (BoP) at the Nepal-India border in the district.

The locals have felt a great sigh of relief as various criminal activities that were taking place at the border area have been controlled following the establishment of the BoP.

In the ongoing Fiscal Year itself, as many as seven BoPs have been established in 101 kilometers open border area in Kailali.

Chetram Dahit, a local of Kailari Rural Municipality-7, Bhuiyaphata, said, “The police deployed at the border have also started patrolling regularly. We feel safe and secured now.”

“Prior to establishment of the BoP, security officials weren’t present at the border and we were living with fear of criminals and wild animals,” added Dahit. “We have been relieved since Janurary.”

According to Dahit, criminal activities such as murder and rape were recorded in the border areas of the district regularly.

Also, dacoits from India had murdered the locals en masse once, he said.

The BoP has been set up in an old building of National Secondary School in Bhuiyaphata.

It is said that after the Armed Police Force (APF) started patrolling the area, the cases of crops theft also declined.

No. 34 Battalion of APF said that the district was currently hosting 10 BoPs.

According to the Battalion, the new outposts were set up at Bangara and Jugedi of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis, Khonpur and Bhuiyaphata of Kailari Gaupalika, Himmatpur and Kusumghat Bhajani Municipality and Sri Lanka hill of Tikapur Municipality.

Prior to this, the BoP of Tikapur APF was set up only at Fulbari and Bhajani.

“After presence of 10 BoPs for border surveillance, the security situation of the district has become effective,” said Superintendent of APF No. 34 Battalion, Kamal Timalsina.

Timalsina said that one BoP used to surveil an area of 35 kilometers previously. Now, 10 BoPs surveil in an area of 10 kilometers each, he added.

All BoPs have been placed within 500 meters distance from no man’s land.

Likewise, a BoP placed at Nepal Telecom’s tower has been shifted to Guleriya Ghat near the no man’s land, said SP Timalsina.

Stating that the APF’s first priority was to increase BoPs, SP Timalsina said that the help provided by the locals were notable in establishing BoPs in a short span of time.
