Chautara, Jan. 8: Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel said on Thursday that the party unity would remain intact if the allegations labelled against Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli by another chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachadna’ were withdrawn.
Addressing a meeting of the party cadres loyal to the PM Oli-led faction of the Nepal Communist Party in Sindhupalchowk, DPM Pokhrel said the spilt in the NCP was due to the charges labelled against chairman Oli that could end his 55-year political career.
“If you split up, you will face the consequences,” said Pokhrel.
“The party with the elected chairman and general secretary will be the legitimate party. The party led by PM Oli will be recognised as the official party and the election symbol of sun will be with the statutory party,” Pokhrel added.
He said he was confident that the court would not create any obstruction to the decision of the Prime Minister, who had 64 per cent of votes in the parliament, to go for the fresh polls.
Urging the party cadres not to deviate from their goals in any case, he asked, “Is it possible to become the party chairman and prime minister immediately without completing the remaining tasks of the party unity and without holding party general convention?”
