By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 17:  Kathmandu District Court today acquitted former Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Krishna Bahadur Mahara, on the ground of ‘failure to establish cause of action’.

The Supreme Court’s website, under daily hearing of district courts, has mentioned that cause of action against Mahara couldn’t be established.

Also, Ananda Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson at the Kathmandu District Court said that defendant Mahara had refused the allegations of attempt to rape made against him.

“The statement given by the victim during investigation and statement of refusal deposited by Mahara before the court matched,” said Shrestha. “Hence, the court ordered to acquit him.”

A single bench of justice Ambar Raj Poudel today made the verdict that Mahara was not guilty of the charges.

Following the acquittal, Mahara has been taken to Sadar Khor, Dillibazaar to complete the required work procedures for getting released from the prison where he was remanded into judicial custody. He will be released from Dillibazaar jail shortly.
