By Prem Raj Simkhada, Kalikot, July 29: As many as nine persons have gone missing in Kalikot due to floods and landslides caused by incessant rainfall from Tuesday night.

Six persons of the same family have gone missing after Gange Budha’s house in Narharinath Rural Municipality-7 got buried in landslide.

Yakshya Raj Joshi, information officer of Kalikot District Police Office, said, “Of the 11 family members of Gange Budha, six including Gange himself have gone missing.”

Gange Budha, 65, Naina Budha 61, Kusha Budha 24, Chandrika Budha, 10, Ram Budha, 4, and one and a half year old Charitra Budha were buried in the landslide.

Gange’s daughter, Bimala, has been injured while four of his family members were able to escape.

Bimala has been taken to Primary Health Center, Kumalgaun, for further treatment.

Couple buried in landslide

Bale Budha’s house in Narharinath Rural Municipality-7 has also been destructed by the landslide, burying Bale, 65, and his 63-year old wife.

Meanwhile, the rain-induced disaster in Narharinath Rural Municipality has claimed eight lives. Manka Bhandara, 45, of Narharinath-3 has been seriously injured.

Dhir Bahadur Bista, Chairman of Narharinath Rural Municipality, said, “Condition of injured Bhandara is serious. We are searching for helicopter to airlift her to Kathmandu for further treatment.”

Prior to this, Paras Bhandara, 16, of Narhari-8 had gone missing in Khulalu landslide on Saturday. “As the landslide was huge, we have not been able to find him yet,” said Chairman Bista.

Likewise, Abishara Shahi, 58, of Khadachakra Municipality-5 has been swept away by flood in Takulla stream, informed the Police.

Due to the torrential rainfall of Monday night, six persons including five of same family in Raskot Municipality-1 had gone missing and three were injured.

Information Officer Joshi said that search operation of those who have gone missing in the rain-induced disasters was going on.

Moreover, as Sitala settlement of Narharinath-9 is in high risk of being hit by landslide, the locals have been shifted to a school nearby, informed the Rural Municipality.
