Nepal–EU Film Festival from September 17

Kathmandu, Sept. 6: The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal has informed that the 10th edition of the Nepal-European Union Film Festival- 2021 (NEUFF) will begin on September 17.
Films selected for the festival will be screened through the virtual streaming platform ‘Festival Scope’.
Organising a virtual press conference on Sunday, the Delegation of the European Union informed that the 10th edition of the NEUFF will be held from September17 to 25.
The nine-day festival brings 15 award-winning films and 24 others to audience.

“Despite the hardships posed by the pandemic, which bought the cultural activities to a standstill, we will keep promoting cultural exchanges and fusion between Nepal and the European Union through the online screening of some of the best European and Nepali films,” said Stephane Maicon, Charge d’ Affairs at the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal.
Altogether 11 European award winning films, two of which will be subtitled into Nepali, and three award winning feature Nepali films including ‘Bulbul’ directed by Binod Poudel, ‘Aama Khando’ directed by Dhondup Tsering and ‘Sarita’ directed by Sergio Basso, will be screened in the festival.

Environmental film from India – ‘I Cannot Give You My Forest’ directed by Nandan Saxena and Kavita Bahl, which received the National Film Award for the best agriculture film, will also be screened.
Two short films, ‘Co-Husbands’ directed by Ganesh Paanday and ‘Split Ends’ directed by Rajan Kathet, will also be shown in the festival.

European film, ‘Acasa-My Home’, Radu Ciornicicu’s first documentary screened at the ‘World Cinema Documentary Competition’ will also be streamed with Nepali subtitles.
Another European film, ‘Her Job’, will also have Nepali subtitles. The film revolves around the story of an oppressed woman who discovers a new sense of self when she gets her first job as a cleaner in a shopping mall.

In addition, 23 films on wildlife conservation, environment and climate change will be streamed in the festival and all the films seek to genertae awareness on the importance of the environment, said the organisers.
Speaking at the programme, NEUFF brand ambassador and actor Dayahang Rai said that the festival would help exchange European and Nepali cultures through films.

This year, the festival also seeks to recognise the talents of professional filmmakers through a short film competition on the topic ‘Gender Equality’, informed the organisers.
The date of submission for the films had ended on August 31 and the organisers are currently in the evaluation process.
The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of 500 Euros.
