Kathmandu, Feb. 24: Main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, on Sunday objected to the decision of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to amend the constitution to insert a provision according to which a National Assembly member can become the Prime Minister.
NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma Sunday evening asked in his tweet why the preparation to amend the constitution was made looking just at the face of an individual.
He said the government had rejected the constitution amendment demand put forth by the Madhesi, Janajati, Dalit and Tharu communities.‘Why is this preparation of farce comrades without having national discourse?” he wrote.
The NCP, as reported by the media Sunday evening, formed a committee led by its senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal to work out for constitution amendment to ensure that an NA member could also become the Prime Minister.
NCP leader Bam Dev Gautam was exerting pressure for the same.
Other members of the committee are Subas Nembang and Khimlal Devkota.
However, Nembang denied any knowledge about the formation of such committee.
Other NCP leaders were not available to make any comment on the issue.
