Kathmandu, Apr. 6: Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range has begun coronavirus awareness programme at the main intersections of the capital from Monday.
Today, teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at 14 places, including Jorpati, Maharajgunj, New Baneshwor and Ratna Park, urged commoners to take precaution to avoid coronavirus infection through miking.
Police have urged locals to wear masks, use sanitizers and maintain social distancing. Police have also raised awareness against coronavirus by playing awareness audio in Kathmandu's major junctions.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the local administrations across the country to conduct awareness generating programmes against COVID-19.
Police have launched an awareness generating campaign in the first phase and in the second phase those who walk in public places without wearing masks will be fined Rs 100.
At Gaushala Chowk, DSP Jitendra Basnet of Gaushala Metropolitan Police Circle announced from mike, "Now, we will fine people for not wearing a mask."
Kathmandu Chief District Officer Kali Prasad Parajuli said that public would be fined after being warned earlier. "We have begun awareness campaign in the first phase," said Parajuli. "After alerting the people, the administration will start fining them."
According to the Infectious Diseases Control Act-2020, the CDOs have the right to impose fines to prevent the spread of the disease.
