Kathmandu, Apr. 10: The Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MOEST) has asked the Nepali students studying abroad to contact the concerned embassies of Nepal in case they faced any problem during the fight against the coronavirus.
Nepali students living abroad could contact the Nepali Embassy in the concerned country if they face any problem including living and fooding due to COVID-19, the Ministry said.
“The recent problem is not a problem of any single country, it is a global crisis. We have our embassies in many of the countries to facilitate our citizens. If any problem of the students is not resolved by the embassy, it can be solved from the government to government discussion which is being done by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Deepak Sharma, Spokesperson of the MOEST said.
A week ago, thousands of Nepali students in Australia were worried after Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison asked the foreign students to return to their home if they were unable sustain themselves during the fight against the virus.
"Concerning that the students are facing financial problems aboard after they lose job due to the virus, a cabinet level decision was already there to allow the guardians to send money to their wards studying abroad. Now the guardians from Nepal could send money to their wards. The decision has addressed the major problems faced by our students abroad," Sharma said.
In this period of lockdown, no one could move from one place to another. Therefore, the students have to stay safely at the same place where they are now, Sharma further said.
He also stated that the MOEST could provide details of every student studying abroad if the government sought any information about them.
No disturb in Academic Session
Meanwhile, the MOEST said the virus could not disrupt the academic session if the situation did not worsen.
If schools are allowed to open by the last of April, there will be no change in academic session, Sharma said.
"Even if the schools remain close for more time, the ministry is thinking to open the schools even in vacations time. Therefore, now the ministry is in wait and see situation," Sharma said.
Sharma asked the students to keep learning while staying at home.
