Kalikot, July 28: A mini oxygen plant has been set up at Raskot Community Hospital in Raskot Municipality of Kalikot district.
As the hospital faced difficulty in treatment of COVID-19 patients, the National Innovation Centre (NIC) provided the mini oxygen plant as a support to it.
According to Ritesh Dev of the NIC, the centre is providing medical equipment for rural and Himalayan districts free of cost.
The mini oxygen plant has the capacity to produce 60 litres of oxygen per minute and is sufficient for 10 beds, said Dev. During the second wave, COVID-19 patients of the district were referred to District Hospital due to the lack of medical oxygen.
Director at the hospital, Kaushal Neupane said that many patients were in need of medical oxygen during the second wave, due to which the hospital faced crunch of oxygen supply.
Chief at the hospital Dr. Bhojraj Bam said that after having an oxygen plant, the plaguing problem of oxygen shortage has been solved once and for all. “Now we can provide treatment to critical patients as well,” he added.
Chairman of NIC Mahabir Pun said that the centre had innovated 11 types of equipment and distributed them to the hospitals in need free of cost.
After the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the country, the centre is developing various medical equipment and providing them to rural health institutions of western and eastern hilly districts, said Pun.
Although the hospital is now owned by the government, support from various helping hands is pouring in.
The hospital was established with the fund collected from the Nepalis residing abroad. When the hospital management was facing a hurdle in its operation due to the lack of funds, the hospital campaigners are again collecting funds.
