Dhalkebar, Jan. 17: A month-long Makar fair has begun at the famous religious site of Dhanusadham in Dhanushadham Municipality of Dhanusha district.
The fair that began on Sunday will continue for a month. The Makar fair is organised here every Sunday throughout the month of Magh (January 15 to February 12).
Devotees from Dhanusha, Mahottari, Siraha, Saptari, Sindhuli and bordering area of India visit the religious fair.

It is believed that one of the three pieces of Shiva Dhnausha (bow of God Shiva) that Lord Ram broke during Sita’s swayamvara had fallen at Dhanushadham.
As a part of the Pinak bow of Shiva is housed in the Dhanushadham temple that lies 18-km north-east from Janakpurdham, a religious fair takes around the temple throughout Magh month.
Although devotees visit the Dhanusha temple at other times of the year, their number is negligible compared to the crowd during the month-long festival, said Bharat Das, priest of the temple.

An about 1000-year old Pipal tree stands on the temple premises of the temple. The roots of the old tree are believed to be source of water there. Locals call it Akash Ganga, as it never dries up.
According to priest Das, foreign and domestic devotees and tourists throng the temple to observe the piece of the Shiva’s bow during the Makar fair.
The month-long festival takes place every year.
