Kathmandu, Nov. 19: The Embassy of Japan in Nepal has signed an agreement with Koshi Hospital of Morang for the installation of equipment for the treatment of cataract and glaucoma patients.
Yoshioka Yuzo, charge d'Affaires at the Japanese embassy, recently signed a grant contract with Dr. Chuman Lal Das, medical superintendent of Koshi Hospital, for installing medical equipment for the treatment of patients with the eye conditions.

The Embassy of Japan has expressed confidence that the project will improve the quality of service provided by the hospital and further enhance the friendship between the peoples of two countries.
Issuing a press release on Thursday, the embassy informed that the support would be provided under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Government of Japan. The project involves a grant of Rs. 16.91 million.

As per the embassy, the project will support the installation of medical equipment, including non-contact tonometer, auto ref keratometer, Bscan, microscope, phacoemulsification machine, static plus kinetic perimeter and yag laser for the investigation and treatment of cataract and glaucoma.

Koshi Hospital provides health services to nearly 200,000 patients every year. However, a lack of resources has created problems for it to identify and treat patients with cataract and glaucoma.
