By Abhinash Chaudhary, Dhangadhi, July 29: More than 150 houses have been inundated in Kailali due to flooding in various rivers triggered by incessant rainfall from Tuesday night.

According to the Kailali District Police Office, 120 houses were deluged in Bhajani Municipality itself. “After 50-60 houses of Jabalpur Village in Bhajani-5 got submerged in flood water in the district, all the locals have been shifted to a safer place,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pratik Bista. Flood of Kadha River had entered the village, said Bista.

Likewise, the District Police Office informed that 60 houses were inundated in Mohanpur, Dhusi and Kadha villages of Bhajani Municipality-2 and 3 due to flooding in Kadha River.

The flooding has also obstructed Bhajani-Joshipur road and roadway leading to Mahadeuli Village from Mohanpur.

“Majority of places of Bhajani-3 have been submerged due to the flooding in Mohana and Kadha River,” said ward Chair Bikram Chaudhari.

Moreover, the flood in Kadha River has inundated 23 houses of Fariya village in Joshipur Rural Municipality-3 and Patharaiya River inundated seven houses in Khairani Tol of Joshipur RM-4.

All the rivers and streams of the district including Karnali, Mohana, Patharaiya, Kadha, Kandra, Ghuraha, Khutiya and Kataini of the district have been flooded due to torrential rainfall.

The water level in the Karnali River, the biggest river of the district, has reached near the danger level.  Parbat Gurung, gauge reader, said high alertness should be opted if the water level reaches 10 meter. The water level in the Karnali is currently at 9.6 meter.

“Bardagoriya Rural Municipality and Tikapur Municipality have also been waterlogged. The details is yet to be received,” said Gurung.
Milanchowk, Boradadi and Parkchowk of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-3 have also been waterlogged due to the rainfall.
