By Prem Raj Simkhada, Kalikot, July 30: The settlements in Raskot Municipality, Kalikot are in high risk of being hit by landslide and flood. Connection has been lost in various places of the district due to flood and landslide.

As the flood and landslides have swept away roads connecting one village to another, the connection between the villages and wards within Raskot Municipality has been obstructed, said the Police.

After the flood eroded the main road of Raskot, it has become difficult for the Police to carry out rescue works.

According to Police Inspector Yakshya Raj Joshi, the rescue team of Raskot Police had to walk six hours to reach the place of disaster.

Dayaram Simkhada, ward chair of Raskot Municipality-2, said that four houses were buried in his ward. The risk of a boulder falling into the village has also increased in Raskot. "The health office, birthing center and Serabazaar are in high risk of being hit by the boulder," said ward chair Simkhada.

The Nepali Army (NA) has been asked to blast the boulder. NA Colonel Uttam Katuwal said, "It is a lengthy process to blast the boulder. Thus, the locals of Raskot-2 should be shifted to a safer place."

As the landslide hit Raskot-2 during the daytime, no human casualties were recorded. However, huge loss of property was recorded in the ward.

Ward Chair Simkhada said since the flooding in Biruwa, Sera and Tuda streams of Raskot-2 had swept away the main road, it was not possible to travel from one settlement to the other.

Mimasara Bam Shahi, Deputy Mayor of Raskot Municipality said, "Due to obstruction of road, it has been difficult to reach to the place of incident. As the water level in local streams has not decreased, it is risky to cross the streams as well."

Shahi said that it would take six months to easily travel from one settlement to the other in Raskot Municipality.

As the roadways have been completely swept off, the reconstruction can only be done in clear weather, added Shahi.
As many as five persons including four of the same family in Bahaltola of Raskot Municipality-1 have gone missing due to flooding in Gange stream.

Flooding has also affected Narharinath Rural Municipality, Tilagupha Municipality and Mahawai Rural Municipality.
