Kathmandu, Jan. 6: Chairman of the Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Madhav Kumar Nepal said on Tuesday that the two-thirds of the Central Committee members of the party had unanimously nominated him as the party chairman as proposed by party leader Jhala Nath Khanal.
Speaking at an interaction held by Janata Samjwadi Party-Nepal at Baneshwor on Tuesday, Nepal said the party took a disciplinary action against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for his autocratic move to dissolve the House of Representatives.
“Prime Minister Oli acted in an autocratic and arbitrary manner. So he has been sacked from the post of party chairman through the disciplinary action,” said Nepal.
Claiming that Prime Minister Oli was not republican, inclusive and federalist, chairman Nepal said that he was ironically the one who was in the position of party chairman.
“Our struggle against his authoritarian activities will continue,” he said
He further claimed that the Constitution does not give the prime minister any right to dissolve the House of Representatives.
Likewise, spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the reason for not removing the leaders of the Oli-faction from the party organisation was to provide them an opportunity to come back.
Talking to journalists here on Tuesday, Shrestha said the leaders in the Oli-faction were given an opportunity for transformation.
“We want struggle to be friendly, not aggressive one. We have also given them an opportunity for transformation,” he said.
Stating that the statutory bodies should be allowed to function independently, Shrestha said he was hopeful that they would get the legitimacy of the NCP from the Election Commission.
He further said he was confident that the parliament would be restored. “We will continue our struggles till the parliament gets restored.”
Meanwhile, leader of the Prachanda-Nepal faction of NCP and former Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai said that Prime Minister Oli was moving ahead on the path of former King Gyanendra Shah.
Talking to journalists, Bhattarai accused PM Oli of following the footsteps of Gyanendra.
“Those who are close to him are saying that federalism should be cancelled. And this is the footstep of Gyanendra. But we stand for federalism, republicanism and against the dissolution of the parliament,” he said.
