Kathmandu, Oct. 18: As no major crime and unlawful incident took place in the Kathmandu Valley during Dashain festival, the Valley remained quite peaceful and safe for the last 10 days from October 7, Nepal Police said Sunday.

In the last 10 days from October 7 to 17, only some minor incidents of public offence like thefts, burglaries, brawls, gambling, suicides, minor road accidents, and fires took place, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sushil Singh Rathour and Spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, said.
Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Ramshahpath, has also said that nobody lost life in road accident during the festival. No major road accident took place in the Valley in the last one week, SP Sanjib Sharma Das and Spokesperson for MTPD said.

The Traffic Division had deployed traffic police personnel from its 43 traffic police units in the Valley to conduct both surprise and regular vehicle checks. Traffic Police had also set up 14 passenger help desks in different places including New Bus Park, Gangabu, targeting Dashain festival.

According to the records of the Metro Police, detention of 63 gamblers along with Rs. 1,093,000 in cash seizure, 157 minor road accidents with no serious fatalities and deaths, 18 theft cases, 13 suicides by hanging, 19 brawls, four arson cases, one rape case, two burglaries, three incidents of knife and sharp weapon attack, and 12 community-based brawls took place in the last 10 days.
Metro Police had launched Dashain special security plan from September 17 by deploying 3,271 security personnel.

According to SP Rathour, picket patrol had been placed in 61 places, and morning and evening patrols in 60 places during the festival.
Similarly, 48 mobile patrols in the morning and night, 35 bicycle patrols, 83 quick response teams, 30 teams for search and seal operations, 30 others for area seals and ambushing, and CRV and cross checking in 46 places were deployed.

According to him, checkpoints had been set up at 36 places every day from 3 pm to 6 pm and at 36 places from 8 pm to 12 midnight.
