COVID-19 infected lady sent home as her PCR report got exchanged

By Madhusudan Timilsina, Kavre, July 2: A 24-year old female of Banepa Municipality-10, who had in fact tested positive for the virus but was given a negative report, stayed at home in close contact with her family members due to the misinformation provided by the Dhulikhel Hospital.

She was staying in quarantine while she obtained the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test report. She was sent home after testing negative for the virus.

Later, it was found out that she had tested positive for the virus.

The hospital had sent her home after completion of quarantine period by providing her with PCR report of another lady with same name.

The Banepa Health Division said that Dhulikhel Hospital had sent the lady home without looking into the report.

Dipak Dahal, Information Officer of Dhulikhel Hospital, said that the report of two ladies got exchanged after their names and age group matched. He accepted that the report was sent without looking into their addresses.

Health administrator of the district health office, Dr Narendra Kumar Jha, said that all six family members of the COVID-19 infected lady were placed in quarantine.

Tracing of those who had come in direct contact with the patient is being done, added Jha.

Swab sample of the lady was collected on 11th day of being placed in quarantine after she had returned from Kuwait.

Banepa Municipality said that she was sent home on the basis of the PCR test report provided by the hospital.

Prior to this, a youth of Panchkhal Municipality had tested positive for the virus after being sent home from quarantine.
