Bhairahawa, Nov. 20: The three-day Communication Festival concluded here Tuesday evening by issuing a 16-point Lumbini declaration.
In the declaration, all the political parties, civil society, academia, journalists, non-government organisations and the people are called to maintain national consensus on the issues of sovereignty, nationality, unity and territorial integrity.
It also urged the government to formulate policies to preserve and encourage the media.
It said that the Right to Information Act should not be limited only in the press sector. It should be used for ensuring the fundamental rights of the people.
It also urged the Lumbini Development Trust and the federal government to implement the Lumbini Master Plan prepared 42 years ago.
In the three-day festival, Gopal Khanal, consultant editor of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, Hari Bahadur Thapa, chief editor of Annapurna Post, Shyam Rimal, chief editor of National News Agency, Umesh Chouhan, editor of Naya Patrika and Sanjeeb Sharma, editor of Nepal Samaya.com.and others discussed on several issues of the media, including the issues and ways of news writing.
In the festival, journalists expressed their commitment to promote the Visit Nepal Year 2020 and the Lumbini Visit Year 2076.
