Kathmandu, Jan. 8: Medical Education Commission has recently completed common entrance examinations of the post graduate level.
Although the common entrance examinations were in demand for long, the MEC managed to conduct the common entrance examinations for the first time this year.
The MEC has conducted the entrance examinations of Doctor of Medicine, Master of Surgery, Master in Nursing (MN), Master of Pharmacy (MPH) and others on January 2, 3 and 4.
The MEC published the results of MD\MS entrance exams on Wednesday and stated that it would publish all results by Friday, Sita Ram Koirala of the MEC said.
The MEC is determined to assure quality and uniformity in medical education throughout the country by implementing a robust system of examination, Koirala added.
Till last year, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University and Health Science Academies were conducting entrance examinations separately.
Now, after the introduction of common entrance examination system, the students could enrol on the institutions of their choice on merit basis.
Earlier, the students were compelled to attend the entrance of many institutions with the fear of not getting admission in the selected institution.
The common entrance will help remove malpractices prevalent in the medical education sector, especially during enrolment, Koirala said.
About 5,000 examinees sat for the entrance examinations of MD\MS whereas only 2,800 examinees passed for 1,035 seats available in different institutions.
Meanwhile, stakeholders of engineering education have also demanded introduction of common entrance examinations as in the medical sector.
