Hetauda, Feb. 21: Chief Minister of Bagmati state Dormani Poudel has emphasized on conservation of religion and culture, a means of uniting the society amidst diversities.

He, in a message of best wishes on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, a Hindu festival, said the festival is a strong example of caste-based, geographical and communal integration.

"On the festival celebrated as a day when Hindu God Shiva was originated, I offer greetings to the residents of Bagmati state and all Nepali sisters and brothers," he said in the message.

"There is no doubt that our religion, culture and customs are highly significant in terms of scientific reasons. We can take the Lord Shiva as a strong base for unity amidst religious, caste-based and geographical diversities and for social goodwill and equal respect for all religions since centuries," he said.

According to him, it is necessary to realise that Shiva who was originated in the mountain is highly worshiped by devotees in the plains and the Buddha born in the Terai is followed by the Mountain people and this presents a strong example of caste-based, geographical and communal adjustment.

He further added that it was the responsibility of all to protect and promote our religions, culture and customs, the things which unite the society. He, however, was of the view of unlearning misconducts in the name of religions.
