Bullfight in Nuwakot on Maghe Sankranti: 31 pairs of bulls registered

Nuwakot, Jan. 11: At least 31 pairs of bulls have been registered for the bullfight festival to be held on the occasion of the Manghe Sankranti on January 14 in various places of Nuwakot district this year.

According to the organisers, 31 pairs of bulls have been registered for four different places.

Out of 31 pairs, 17 pairs have been registered for Taruka, the major place for bullfighting, in Tarakeshwor Rural Municipality-3.

At a press meet held today in Bidur to disseminate information about the annual event, coordination of the Bull Fighting Festival Organisation Committee Surya Man Shrestha said that the preparation of festival was in the final stage.

The bullfight which used to be held at various places of Taruka has been merged for the last 15 years and since then the annual event has been held at Chandani where a large plain land is available.

Hundreds of people come to Taruka every year to enjoy the bullfighting. The organisers said that they were going to organise the festival as a continuation despite there was a slim chance of a great number of visitors.

Besides Taruka, the bullfight is held at Betrabati of Bidur Municipality-10. Organiser of the event, Gosainkunda Youth Club, said the festival would be held with some restrictions due to COVID-19.

Chairman of the Club, Gyan Kumar Dangol, informed that only four pairs of bulls were registered for the fight.

Similarly, six pairs of bulls have been registered for fighting in Ghalegaun of Panchakanya Rural Municipality-6 and four pairs have been registered in Sharabagar of Shivapuri Rural Municipality-5.   (Translated from Nepali news of RSS)
