“Buddha's teachings are still relevant”

Kathmandu, Nov 23: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has said thart Buddha's precepts and teachings on education and integrity were still relevant.
Inaugurating the International Buddhist Unity Conference on Saturday, he underscored the need of working together for the happiness of the people and prosperity of the country.
"We should not lag behind in promoting peace and understanding in society based on the values promoted in Buddha's teachings," he said.
Home Minister Thapa opined real peace and self-satisfaction would be attained by internalizing the Buddha education by realizing the Buddha's message of truth, peace and harmony that protects society from conflict and the scourge of war.
He added that the Buddha's precepts are inspiring for social reform, unity and world peace.
Conference Organizing Committee coordinator Basundhara Shrestha said the Buddhist unity conference would be organized every year.
Eighty five foreign monks and nuns including 15 from Sri Lanka, 20 from Thailand, 12 from China and 40 from India, and 50 from Nepal are participating in the conference.
