By Mahima Devkota, Kathmandu, Sept. 1: The highest number of temporary contraceptive users have been recorded in the Bagmati Province and the least users are in the Karnali Province.
The number of users of temporary contraceptive users in Bagmati Province is 2.606 million in the current fiscal year 2077/78 and in Karnali Province, the number of users is recorded to be 923,811 in 2077/78.
According to Puskar Bijhucche, Statistical Officer at the Planning Section under Family Welfare Division, the largest number of temporary contraceptives are from the Bagmati Province and the least users are recorded in the Karnali Province.
He further said that the number of contraceptive users has increased in the Bagmati Province in the current fiscal year 2077/78 in comparison to the fiscal year 2076/77, however, temporary contraceptive users in 2077/78 have decreased in Karnali Province in comparison to the previous year.
Mainly, five types of temporary contraceptives are majorly used in Nepal, that is, Depo-Provera, given every three months, Combined oral contraceptive pill, implants, and coil or intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD), and condoms, Bijhucche informed the TRN Online.
In Bagmati Province, the number of users of temporary contraceptives has increased from 2.431 million to 2.606 million. However, Karnali Province has seen a decrease in the use of contraceptives, in the fiscal year 2077/78. The data of the previous fiscal year 2076/77 shows that the contraceptive users there were 1,421,848, he added.
In Bagmati Province, the users of Depo-Provera, given every three months, has increased to 796,098 in the current fiscal year from 794,961 in 2076/77, the users of Combined oral contraceptive pill have increased to 402,271 in 2077/78 from 374,875 in 2076/77, users of implants have increased to 1.142 million in 2077/78, from 1.005 million in 2076/77 and coil or intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) have increased to 246,272 in 2077/78 from 235,368 in 2076/77.
In Karnali Province, however, has seen a decrease in the use of contraceptives, in the fiscal year 2077/78, which stands at 923,811. The data of the previous fiscal year 2076/77 shows that the contraceptive user were 1.032 million.
Of the five frequently used temporary contraceptives in Karnali Province, the use of Depo-Provera was 311,565 in 2076/77 and increased to 380, 605 in 2077/78, the users of combined oral contraceptive pill also increased to 60,900 in 2077/78 from 61,618 in 2076/77 and coil or intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) increased to 247,115 in 2077/78 from 227,318 in 2076/77.
However, there has been a slight decrease in the users of condoms in both Bagmati and Karnali Provinces.
