Landslide buries 14 houses in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, Lamjung

By Belina Thapa, Lamjung, July 22: As many as 14 houses were buried after a massive landslide hit Pallotari of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-3 in Lamjung district on Wednesday.

According to the locals, incessant rainfall from Sunday night in the area had triggered the massive landslip.

At 8 am on Tuesday, mild landslide had hit four houses, whereas, on Wednesday massive landslide struck the village at around 10 am, said Prem Bahadur Basnet, ward chair of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-3.

According to ward Chair Basnet, since the landslip occurred in the morning, no human casualties were recorded.

The loud sound caused by landslide had caused great fear among the locals. Locals Srijana Gotame, Dev Bahadur Sharki, and Sujan Achami were injured while running away from the landslides. They’re now receiving treatment at a local health post.

Arjun Gurung, Chairman of Marshyangdi Rural Municipality, reported that 18 out of 74 houses were completely swept away by the landslide.

After the information of the incident, a rescue team of the police went to the spot and took the injured to the hospital, said Chair Gurung. Other locals have been shifted to a safer place, he added.

"Small landslides had caused partial damages to some houses in the area on Tuesday morning. However, on Wednesday, Over a dozen houses were buried in the landslides", said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ganga Bahadur Thapa.

The details as to the destruction caused by the landslides are yet to be received, said DSP Thapa.

The displaced locals of Pallotari who were rescued in time and safely have been evacuated to the neighbouring villages, schools and community schools.
