Helicopter rescue for pregnant women effective, 16 rescued in 8 months

By Amrit Prasad Paudel, Beni, Jan 31: A 26 year's old pregnant woman of Nerwang village of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality -4 in Myagdi district has been rescued by a helicopter this morning.  

Nerwang village is the most remote area of the rural municipality which is situated over 8,000 meters from sea level.

Minu Chhantyal, a resident of Nerwang, was suffering from childbirth pangs from 10 am on Saturday. It takes more than three hours to reach the nearest Health Center from the village.

Until Sunday morning Minu's condition was getting worse although she was trying unsuccessfully to give birth to her baby.

At last, her relatives called the rural municipality chairman, Thamshara Pun, and she was rescued by a helicopter of Prabhu Air and taken to the Gandaki Hospital of Pokhara in coordination with the Social Development Ministry of the Gandaki province.

According to the Social Development Minister of the province Naradevi Pun's Personal Assistant Prakash Paudel, Minu was rescued at 9 am and she has given birth to a daughter at the hospital at 10 am. He informed that the health of the mother and the baby is normal.

Naradevi Pun, Social Development Minister of Gandaki province, said that 16 pregnant women have been rescued by helicopters during the current fiscal year in the province.

Out of them, three pregnant women were rescued from Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality alone.
