By Chitra Mijar, Sindhupalchowk, June 16: At least four people have gone missing in the floods that swept across Melamchi bazar and Helambu area last night.

Rajan Adhikari, Superintendent of Police (SP) and Chief of District Police Office, informed that three men and a woman have gone missing in the flood. Their identity is yet to be ascertained, he said.

The floods have inundated Melamchi bazaar and the camp of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project has been swept away. The road above Melamchi has been eroded at multiple points, cutting off the road connectivity. Electricity supply has been disrupted.

Chanaute Bazar, Kilau, Talamarang, Gyalthum, Tipeni and Melamchi bazar are in inundation.

The flood in the Melamchi River has swept away the concrete bridge connecting Melamchi municipality and Helambu Rural Municipality. All suspension bridges above Melamchi are said to have been washed away by the swollen river following incessant rainfall.

Nepal Police, Nepali Army and Armed Police Personnel have reached the flooded area and carrying out rescue operations.

SP Adhikari said that the details of the damage caused by the floods were being collected.
