COVID-19 cases in SAARC nations declining, highest in India, lowest in Bhutan

By Aasha Shah, Kathmandu, June 22: The COVID-19 infection rate has been declining in SAARC nations lately.

In the SAARC countries, India reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases while Bhutan reported the lowest during the second wave of the pandemic, as showed by worldometer.

Currently, the recovery rate of India is 94.9 per cent, the highest among the SAARC nations. Similarly, the recovery rate of Afghanistan is the least in SAARC nations, which is 66.1 per cent. There are 39.9 active cases of COVID-19 in Afghanistan.

There are 3.8 per cent active cases in Pakistan and six per cent in Bangladesh.

Moreover, the mortality rate is 3.9 in Afghanistan and o.1 in Bhutan.

As of Tuesday, India's COVID-19 tally is at 29,077,861 including 8,926,038 cases of recoveries and 89,302 fatalities. Currently, there are 662,521 active cases in India.

According to the worldometer, Bhutan was the least affected by the pandemic. Until now, Bhutan has recorded 1,939 novel coronavirus cases including 1,685 recoveries and only one death case. There are 253 active cases of COVID-19 in Bhutan.

Nepal's COVID-19 tally is at 622,640 including 599,928 recoveries, 8,772 fatalities and 53,940 active cases.

The worldometer reported that Srilanka has recorded 241,820 cases of COVID-19 including 2,633 deaths, 213,089 recoveries, and 37,798 active cases.

A total of 1,057,055 people have been infected with the virus in Afghanistan of which, 4,293 succumbed to the infection while 605,071 have already recovered from the infection and 36,391 are currently battling with the infection.

Likewise, Bangladesh has recorded 856,304 cases of COVID-19 including 13,626 deaths, 754,482 recoveries, and 57,196 active patients.

Pakistan has reported 949,838 cases of novel coronavirus, 22,034 fatalities, and 894,352 fatalities. There are 33,452 active patients in Pakistan.

Moreover, 721,049 people in the Maldives have been infected with the virus till now of which, 206 could not survive the infection while 671,048 have already defeated the virus. There are 4,759 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
